My sophomore year of college, I was given the opportunity to teach a 10 week art class to undergraduate students, through the program ITALIC. 

I discussed how the musical elements in modern classical composers’ works connected to the intended purposes behind their compositions. Through the analyses, I emphasized broader themes of compositional practices that allowed my students to apply the concepts to their own music. 

The class was structured so that the week following each lecture, my students and I would write music (based on the concepts from the lecture) and come prepared to present our compositions in a workshop. 

My students thrived in the workshops, and the vast differences in our compositional styles allowed for beautifully unique discussions on all of our works.
