I
We met in winter.
You were planting a seed
underneath the snow.
I apologized, it will not be.
But you only smiled.
The Possibilities of Amity (2020)
I wrote The Possibilities of Amity my freshman year during the pandemic. During this time, I was thinking about my future in a variety of ways; the communities I wanted to build, the career I intended to pursue, and the person I needed to be. As such, The Possibilities of Amity is about hope. Hope for my future community, hope for our relationship with the natural world, and hope for finding amity within myself. As I thought about these ideals, I incorporated twenty-eight soundscapes from the hometowns of my classmates who were also a part of the program, “Immersion in the Arts: Living in Culture (ITALIC).” The result is a blend of who we are: our pasts, our current states, and our hopes. Thank you to the 2020 ITALIC class for your collaboration.
